Week 4 Homework

The film this week is a documentary on war photography.


If you are especially sensitive, you can skip this film and I can give you another assignment later.
Watch the documentary War Photographer and the TED talk (with Korean subtitles)
Discuss some of the differences between written and visual storytelling, especially a story involving war and tragedy.
What are the limits (if any) of visual representation? Are there things that should not be photographed?

Watch the documentary The Machine That Made Us

Answer ONE of the following questions. 

Imagine the world without printing. How different would it be? Is printing more important than other technologies, like TV, the internet, telephone, radio? Why or why not? 

Research the history of printing in Korea or China. How does it compare to the European history described in the documentary?
